Official: Snapdragon 835 supports legacy Win32 apps on Windows 10

At WinHEC 2016, Microsoft and Qualcomm partnership surprised the entire tech industry with the announcement that will enable ARM-based Snapdragon processors to run full Windows 10, including the classic Win 32 (x86) apps.

With Qualcomm officially showcasing the next generation SoC – Snapdragon 835, at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 in Las Vegas, it is now clear that Snapdragon 835 will be the first Qualcomm processor to power Windows 10 devices that runs the legacy Win32 including Adobe Photoshop and Universal Windows apps.

In a press release, Qualcomm states that the Snapdragon 835 is designed to support next-generation entertainment experiences including tablets, mobile PCs and other devices running a variety of OS’s including Android and Windows 10 with support for legacy Win32 apps.

Our new flagship Snapdragon processor is designed to meet the demanding requirements of mobile virtual reality and ubiquitous connectivity while supporting a variety of thin and light mobile designs,” said Cristiano Amon, executive vice president, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and president, QCT. “The Snapdragon 835 has an unprecedented level of technology integration that supports superior battery life, improved multimedia, and exceptional photography with gigabit class speeds for fast, immersive experiences.

Microsoft has already demoed the much impressive feature at WinHEC event, and also announced the devices supporting the feature will arrive early this year.

So, the ARM-based PC’s is no fluke at all, and we can expect the Microsoft+Qualcomm partnership to go beyond boundaries in the coming months, so much so the much rumored ‘Surface Phone’ seems to become a reality as more and more evidence becomes available.
