In a serious turn of events, Hike took to blog today and announced about its plans for Windows Phone.
Hike will no longer be working on the development of its Windows Phone app and other Symbian platforms. It has been 4 years since Hike launched its app and it is already being used by over 100 million people with most of them across India.
For Hike, 98% of users are either on Android and iOS devices, and this momentum drives them to work harder and push newer features faster and better like the recent addition of Stories and a brand new Hike camera experience.
In line with this goal, we’ve made a tough decision to pause new development and hence further updates for Windows Phone (WP) platform starting today. If you are an existing Hike user on Windows Phone, you can still continue messaging your friends as before, but we won’t be shipping any new features on this platform.
Along similar lines, we will also be pausing new development on our S40, S60, Blackberry, BB10 platforms. Again, if you are an existing Hike user on any of these platforms, you can continue messaging your friends as before, but we won’t be shipping any new features on this platform.
While Microsoft is doing every thing to bring every developer home with the Universal Windows Platfrom and Xamarin, this seriously is not good news for Windows Phone users, and for me, this is why people hesitate buying a new Windows Phone.
Since WhatsApp have already announced its plans to drop support for Windows Phone 7, Hike seems not to overburden themselves developing a new app for Windows 10 Mobile.
