Strategy Analytics: Nokia (HMD), one of the main vendors driving smartphone growth through 2018

Nokia’s comeback to phones and in particular smartphones has been a popular story of the year 2017. We have been reporting stories related to Nokia Phones market share in markets across the globe and you can read them in one place by clicking here.

The comeback can be termed successful considering the odds that HMD has to face being a startup with the responsibility to carry an iconic brand. While HMD has not revealed the number of Nokia Android smartphones sold yet our own analysis and statistics provided by likes of IDC put the number sold in H2 2017 at around 1.5 million.

Coming to Q3 2017, CountePoint research has published market rankings for Nokia in many markets. But seems the analyst firms are bullish about the future success of Nokia Android smartphones too.

Another major analyst firm Strategy Analytics believes that Nokia (HMD) will be one of the main vendors to drive the growth of smartphone shipments through 2018. As per their forecast, in the year 2018 smartphone shipments will grow by 5%.

Apple and Chinese vendors, including Huawei, OPPO, Xiaomi, vivo, Transsion and Lenovo-Motorola etc., as well as Nokia (HMD) will be among the main vendors driving growth through 2018, with their 4G LTE products portfolios across multiple segments.

Strategy analytics puts HMD in the company of all current major smartphone vendors like Apple, Huawei, Vivo and more that are supposed to drive smartphone growth. This kind of confirms that HMD has been able to win the faith of many industry watches in a short span of one year.

It remains to see what happends in 2018. HMD Global must push ut new devices to grow. A new Nokia 6, Nokia 9 etc..And I hope they get a carrier deal in the US market.
I hope for the best, but the competition will be tough. Oppo/Vivo will come to Europe next year.
And I suspect Sony will make a big comeback. The rumours are that they will get new bezeless devices with 18:9 displays in 2018.

So HMD Global must work hard and not try to think the Nokia brand alone will be enough. Anyway will be interesting to follow the smartphone war.
