Microsoft does it again!! Nokia X OS V 2.0 not coming to Nokia X, X+ and XL.

Nokia-X2-platform_featNokia X2 is here and comes packed with a new version of Nokia X OS termed as “Nokia X software platform 2.0”. The new version has many useful enhancements like “Multitasking view”, enhanced pull-down bar, new Camera UI and some not so much required additions like extra Windows Phone like app drawer.

But the Windows Phone 7Windows Phone 8 update saga has repeated itself with the announcement that Nokia X OS v 2.0 is not coming to devices launched barely weeks back, like Nokia XL and Nokia X+, forget about Nokia X.

“Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won’t be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months.”

The consolation of more updates may not be enough for many and Microsoft is sure going to face lots of flak from existing users. May be Microsoft’s executives still have some brilliant ideas about how to sell Nokia XL to buyers!!

An interesting fact is that Microsoft has canned the Nokia Browser on the X family and replaced it with Opera. (Perhaps, to stop the inevitable duplication caused by developing two browsers in house).

Maybe, they’ll bring IE along if the marketshare of these devices continues to increase, as IE mobile has a very anaemic share of regular users.

  • Becaouse of 3 butons for example? It’s sure.

This is really unfortunate for the people who bought the first Nokia X devices..

But unlike Windows Phone 7, this is Android, and I’m sure the guys at XDA-developers will have a go at porting it over.

And even if they can’t, these users can upgrade to a KitKat Android ROM on the forums, which is a great UX and a newer version of Android than the one on this phone!

    • I think its gonna be hard. The X devices with a lonely back key cannot accommodate the newer and better multitasking view.
