In a good news for HMD and Nokia, the Nokia smartphone shipments saw a growth in Q2 2018 to 4.5 million units as compared to 4 million shipments in Q1 2018. As per the report shared by CounterPoint Research this propelled Nokia to 9th top smartphone vendor ranking globally.

In Q1 2018 4 million Nokia smartphones were shipped for a 12th smartphone vendor ranking. Now in Q2 2018, not only more Nokia smartphones have been shipped but it has also resulted in a jump in vendor rankings for HMD.

As per the report Nokia smartphone shipments accounted for 1% of global smartphone market share.

  • Nokia HMD, OnePlus, Tecno, Xiaomi, Infinix and Huawei were the key fast-growing brands for the quarter.
  • Nokia HMD captured a spot on the global top 10 smartphone shipments ranking for the first time since its re-entry into the smartphone market. Nokia HMD has expanded its smartphone portfolio with a series of launches in the recent quarters, that helped the brand increase its presence globally.

While impressive, HMD does need to do more and scale up faster to reach more customers with more devices. Popular devices like Nokia X6 and Nokia X5 for example are much-desired but still unavailable in most of markets outside China.
