HMD has done comparatively well in the second quarter of 2019 growing Nokia smartphone shipments by 20% year on year. Due to the jump in shipments over the first quarter of 2019 Nokia smartphones ended the quarter with 4.8 million shipments, as reported by the analyst firm CounterPoint.
This ensured that Nokia remained the 9th top smartphone vendor in Q2 2019 too with 1.1 million shipments.
Nokia smartphone touched 4.8 million shipments in Q3 2018 too but suffered a bit of slow down after that. In Q4 2018, 4.6 million Nokia smartphones were shipped.
In Q2 2019, HMD launched and quickly made available it’s entry-level to low-end smartphone range in Nokia 2.2, 3.2 and 4.2. These smartphones come packed with eye-catching design and features like a dedicated Google Assistant button and notifications LED mated to the power button.
HMD has also increased its reach in the US by announcing exclusive Nokia smartphones for carriers like Verizon, Cricket Wireless and AT&T recently. In India also HMD has become much more aggressive price-wise slashing the price of its mid-range and entry-level smartphones.
So, while Q2 2019 again establishes HMD as one of the top-ten smartphone players, HMD needs to build upon this success and grow faster in 2019.
