Indian phone and smartphone market has been one of the most dynamic ever in last few years. Once called the “Nokia country”, nowadays Indian market throws different market winners depending upon one of the major factor, pricing. India is a price-sensitive market and it is easy for any brand to get initial success by offering high-end specs at unexpectedly low prices.
While, HMD never tried to follow this trend and has tried to price Nokia smartphones according to the actual cost of manufacturing it also is forced now to do some amendments with devices like Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus. Anyways, the good news is that even without ushering into the cut-throat pricing competition Nokia brand was the 4th fastest growing smartphone brand in India.
A report from analyst firm CounterPoint claims that Nokia smartphones market share grew by 138% in 2018.
- Tecno was the fastest growing smartphone brand in 2018 growing by 221% as it expanded its offline reach. Tecno (+221%), Honor (+183%), Infinix (+146%), Nokia HMD (+138%) and Asus (+76%) were the fastest growing smartphone brands during 2018.
