Nokia 1 was the first Android Go smartphone from HMD. While we usually see less mention of budget smartphones in daily conversations, these are the devices that help manufacturers in winning masses and expanding user base.
In its report for South Africa market, Counterpoint Research has revealed that Nokia 1 was one of the top-selling smartphones in 2018.
In fact, three out of the top five smartphones sold in South Africa in 2018 use Android Go. Apart from Mobicel Astro, the Nokia 1 and Samsung Galaxy J2 Core are the other two entry-level smartphones in the top five using Android Go.”
In fact from the chart above it seems that Nokia 1 was the 3rd top-selling smartphone in South Africa for the year 2018.
The smartphone market share report for full year 2018 from CounterPoint research highlights Nokia’s comeback as the 9th top smartphone brand. In Q4 2018, it seems 4.6 million Nokia smartphones were shipped which is a 6% jump over the Q4 2017 figures.
Though one can notice a small decline when compared to Q3 shipments figures of 4.8 million. In comparison 4.5 million units were shipped in Q2 2018 and 4 million Nokia smartphones were shipped in Q1 2018.
