No, Microsoft won’t develop “HERE apps” for Windows Phone. Nokia-Microsoft still in talks!

HERE appsUpdate:

HERE Team has now added the following to what they told us,

we have noticed some discussions in the blogosphere about HERE on Windows Phone. We want to clarify that we are committed to providing great products and consumer experiences for Windows based phones. We will continue to support our HERE apps to ensure that they will be compatible with future versions of Windows.

So, HERE team confirms that HERE apps will be supported to be compatible with future versions of windows phone. So, the message right now is that HERE apps for Windows Phone are not being abandoned!

There are some reports doing rounds about Microsoft taking over the “development of HERE apps for Windows Phone” from HERE. This is based on a news report published in a Finnish daily, but it now seems to be a case of mistranslation. We reached to “Pino”, Social media manager for HERE and he says,

mistranslation. As I said before, we’re in talks with Microsoft on who’s gonna develop ‘location apps’ on WP. HERE apps are dev by HERE

The important thing is that WP users will have updated apps, no matter who’s doing it 😉

we updated the HERE apps just few days ago with new navigable countries, for instance

So, seems the status of “HERE apps for Windows Phone” has not changed from what we heard last. Nokia and Microsoft are in talks and as per Pino, HERE apps will be developed by HERE team, if any.

  • Considering that the default maps app does not support Voice Navigation, HERE Drive will always need to exist. With that, adding HERE Maps as well won’t be much of a hard task 😀

who’ll do it and how it will be done is the question, HERE :P. Nokia won’t commit resources, when they need to go after Android and iOS apps development.

      • I guess HERE will do it. MS won’t develop two maps app for the platform. So they either replace the default maps app with HERE or not develop it 😛

If they do both, it will be like crazy. You pay to license maps for your app and then deploy resources to develop app for HERE 😛 Why not develop for yourself using those licensed maps xD
