HERE Apps won’t exist in Windows 10 Store, come March 29. Will still work on Windows Phone 8.1

HERE has finally decided to say good bye to Windows 10 platform and will remove its Apps from Windows 10 store on March 29. Its apps will keep working however on Windows Phone 8.1 devices though no new features will be coming to these apps and only critical Bug Fixes will be available in future.

This means the HERE apps will no longer work on devices running Windows 10 mobile after June 30, 2016. To prepare for this change, we have also decided to remove the HERE apps from the Windows 10 store on March 29, 2016.

If you have a smartphone with Windows Phone 8 or a PC with Windows 8

HERE is deeply integrated in the Windows Phone 8 operating system. The HERE apps for Windows Phone 8 will continue to work for you without any disruption. However, we made the business decision to stop the development of new features. Additionally, the maps developed specifically for Windows Phone will not be updated.

HERE Team recommends use of native Windows Maps that has certainly become much better with recent updates.

For maps, routes and navigation, we recommend using the preinstalled Windows Maps application. The Windows Maps app contains many HERE elements since Microsoft has developed it using the HERE Platform and with assets they received from HERE in 2014. Based on your comments on HERE 360 and elsewhere, we know many of you are already having a good experience using Windows Maps.

With HERE saying goodbye to Windows 10 platform, it seems some services that were considered to be essential parts of Nokia and later Lumia eco-system are gone. MixRadio first and now HERE Maps!!

Its no loss there are more than enough map apps that are far better and accurate with more detail if you intend to use it for driving, still not sure what there problem is. Does this mean the Germans are not very good at programming.
All the apps that I had on 8.1 are working on WP10 and it is still only beta

I’m already on my way out from this ecosystem; I’m kinda glad it is a clean throat cut by killing the crucial Here services rather than the slow bleed to death by breaking the update promise again later this year. Well, so long and thanks for all the fish…

    But why?
