Microsoft: Will continue to develop Windows 10 Mobile, support Lumia & OEM phones

Announcing the sale of Nokia-branded Feature phones business to FIH Mobile Ltd., a subsidiary of Foxconn, and HMD Global, Oy, the sole global partner for upcoming Nokia Android Phones and Tablets, Microsoft has also talked about its own Mobile devices future to calm some nerves. As per the press release from Microsoft,

Microsoft will continue to develop Windows 10 Mobile and support Lumia phones such as the Lumia 650, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, and phones from OEM partners like Acer, Alcatel, HP, Trinity and VAIO.

So, while it seems Microsoft will keep developing Windows 10 Mobile, the statement about just “support Lumia phones” mayn’t be enough to console Lumia fans, who want to know whether Microsoft will keep Lumia brand alive or kill it in favor of its upcoming “Surface Phone” range.

There have been many rumors suggesting Lumia brand is being killed with Lumia 650 as the last device ever, while we reported a new mid-ranger getting tested in India. With Surface Phone set to arrive only in March-April 2017, Microsoft may make a wise move to bring one or to more Lumias on the table.

I think this mean Microsoft finally giving up on mobile on there own OS. They may update and support the existing Windows Mobile 10 devices for some time. But I think it will be a Android/Microsoft device of some kind next time. In short Microsoft apps on Android similar to the Nokia X line or something like that. And Windows 10 will remain on devices 10″ inch and up.

I think a Surface phone on ARM in spring 2017 (as most rumours suggest) will be to late in any event. I guess by that time both Android and ios have developed own Continuum solutions.

Are you serious? They’ll never stop with mobile. If they do, it’ll not fit in with their plans of one OS everywhere. The Surface Phone will be their phone. Will they continue to support Lumia phones? Probably not, but they’ll definitely bring the Surface phone to the table and it’ll most likely put everything else on the market to shame. Just as their Surface Pro puts everything to shame now. Causing other tycoon companies to follow in their footsteps.

    Continue? When did they start?

…soon as they kicked iOS and Andoid’s asses, though that in itself not a difficult task, being the two not true OS, but toys for nothing else than playing silly childish games…………
