The smartphone market share report for Q2 2019 by analyst firm CounterPoint puts Nokia as the 5th top smartphone brand in Central and Eastern Europe. Nokia brand also increased its market share to 2% as compared to 1% in both Q1 2019 and Q2 2018.

But if talk about all European markets, in Q2 2019 Nokia brand had only 2.7% market share, that shows a decline year over year. Europe was always considered to be a traditionally strong market for Nokia but while in CEE it has seen a market share growth in the rest of Europe there must have been seen a decline.

While the sales decline in Europe may be a bit of a dampener, globally HMD has done comparatively well in the second quarter of 2019 growing Nokia smartphone shipments by 20% year on year. This ensured that Nokia remained the 9th top smartphone vendor in Q2 2019 too with 1.1 million shipments.

So, Q2 2019 brings not so good news from Europe. HMD needs to work hard on bringing better offerings for European buyers to compete with the likes of Xiaomi, which dwell on the price sensitivity of buyers to sell their smartphones.
