WP8.1 GDR1 updateSo, Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 update has been pushed today to all the devices with “Developers Preview” enabled and the great part about this update is that there is no waiting list and all the devices get it simultaneously.

Have a look at the installation experience and changelog below.

Installation:

First things first, please make sure you have “Preview for developers app” still installed and you are signed in and have enabled it for receiving updates. If not, you may not get any “update available” prompt when checking for update.

If you are new to developers preview, here is how you can enable your device to get future OS updates before anyone else. Though in process you lose your device’s warranty and may face issue with “Firmware updates“ ( so that’s your call, as we are fine with it 😛 )

Now go to Settings—>Phone update—> check for updates. Once prompted, let it download the update 8.10.12400.899 ( If you are on lower version 8.10.12397.895 ) and 8.10.14147.180 (GDR1 update). You will be provided with option of download on WiFi only or you can opt to download on “Cell data”.

The whole installation takes 40-50 minutes including data restore post update. The update is really big in size and though the size is not provided, it should be around 200 MB. Once the update is done you will be informed. Check the above screenshots.

Installation issues & Error codes:

In case you are facing issues with update, you can try checking free memory available on your phone and it will be better to have > 2 GB free memory, before trying to update. Also, it should have enough battery. If both the conditions of free memory and battery power are met and still you have issues try to reboot the phone and retry updating. In case you still get an error code like 801881cd, here is a handy list of errors codes, meaning and resolution.
