In an interview with “IBTimes“, Nokia’s vice president Bryan Biniak has emphasized the fact that Nokia and Microsoft are talking to and has nearly collaborated with every developer with an important application. Due to this all important applications are on their way to the store by end of 2013 or by latest March 2014. In fact he suggests that,

By the end of 2013, Windows Phone will be at a point where “people will be hard-pressed to say ‘[Windows Phone] doesn’t have this app’ and it makes a material difference. I don’t think there will be any [app developers] we don’t have commercial agreements with, and so maybe it’s not published by the end of the year but it will be published before the end of [March]. “

Throughout the interview, Bryan has also emphasized the symbiotic relationship they have with MS referring both as we most of the times. But he also mentions that Nokia is trying to evolve a thinking of urgency and continual delivery rather than waiting till end of fiscal year through their partnership with MS.

Such is the symbiotic relationship between Nokia and Microsoft that throughout the interview Biniak uses the terms “we” and “our” to refer not only to Nokia, but to Microsoft as well. It is an indication of how tied into the platform Nokia is and how important it is for Windows Phone to succeed.

“We are trying to evolve the cultural thinking [at Microsoft] to say ‘time is of the essence.’ Waiting until the end of your fiscal year when you need to close your targets, doesn’t do us any good when I have phones to sell today.”

Though, the interviewer seems particularly negative even going to the extent suggesting that MS is not giving priority to WP platform. This is again ridiculous view, considering MS’s recent marketing push for  Lumia devices along with the recent application momentum which has been seen in recent times obviously due to both Nokia and MS efforts. As, we say, credit where credit is due.

There is one area though where MS needs to really be faster. Bringing much sought after features to WP OS, as to make transition of users on platforms like Android to WP much easier. Updates should come thicker and faster!!

Thanks Ronit for the Tip. Cheers!!
