HMD CPO Juho today informed in a tweet that subsequent Android Pie builds will bring missing features to Nokia 8. We then reached to HMD team to understand more about the absence of features like Digital Wellbeing, Adaptive Battery and App actions on Android Pie for Nokia 8.
What we learned from HMD team is,
While Digital Wellbeing and App actions are Android One exclusive features (and the screenshot below taken from official Google Android Pie page confirms it), Adaptive Battery needs further tuning and testing.
Since Nokia 8 is not an Android One smartphone, Google didn’t make features like Digital Wellbeing and Apps actions available in the Android Pie OS build meant for it. But HMD team is closely working with Google to still make it possible though their availability in future can’t be confirmed at this stage.
Adaptive Battery however will come in future builds and may take few weeks of testing and fine tuning to work perfectly with Nokia 8. Nokia 8 owners can expect this feature to finally land on their devices in January/February depending upon how much time it takes to make it issue-free.
HMD team also confirmed that because of the hardware touch keys, Gesture navigation will not work on Nokia 8.
While this information is currently applicable to only Nokia 8, but it will be valid for all other non-Android One smartphones too from any manufacturer. Only hope to get Digital Wellbeing and App actions on such smartphones may be only via some mod or if Google agrees to make them available.
