Intex, an Indian manufacturer has launched cheapest smartphone “Intex Cloud FX” priced at just Rs 1999 ( USD 33). This smartphone runs Firefox OS which uses HERE Maps as its mapping solution. So, while this is not a Nokia branded phone, its launch still is really good news for Nokia as it will benefit HERE.
India is a highly price sensitive market and this smartphone really looks like a threat to feature phones as no Android phone has ever managed to reach this low in pricing.
HERE Maps already power budding platforms like Amazon’s Fire phone, Jolla, and Tizen, Ubuntu apart from Firefox. Nokia has lived up to its promise of bringing “HERE” mapping services to every platform without its own mapping asset.
