Current Lumia devices will be updated to WP7.8 in place of WP8. Will offer new start screen and other new software features.

Lumia devices currently running on Windows Phone 7.5 will not get updated to Windows Phone 8 . It is due to improvements in hardware support and the change in platform architecture.

Rather these devices will get many of the new features  coming with WP8 in form Windows Phone 7.8 update. Great features such as the new Start screen , three live tile sizes will be available to current crop of Lumia devices . This update will directly come to customers sidestepping carriers.

We dont want HD displays nor anyother hardware related improvements… but atleast features like IE10 browser, apps compatibility should have been made available… Now how ca we expect Developers to develope apps for wp7 when its already declared dead. everybody will develope for wp8 which is not backward compatible

    • How will anyone develop for a platform which doesn’t even exist for now. Developer will obviously develop for wp7 as the apps will be used by current devices and are compatible with wp8 as well. So win-win for developers and device owners as well.

This is what happens when OEM’s doesnt have a control over OS, Nokia i think u made the wrong decision by surrendering to MS completely. Software companies doent have a planned strategy & more over dont bother about customer dissatisfaction.
Now Lumia 900 users will fire at Nokia not MS b;cos its a Nokia phone, secondly How will Nokia manage to clear its Lumia 800/710/900 inventory???? 70% of potential buyers will wait for wp8 or slip to Android once the retailers tell them that this phone is not wp8 upgradable..

Was there any communication betwn Nokia & Microsoft?? If yes then y the heck did microsoft follow this fools strategy???

Finally coming to Kernal, How many times this sick software gaint will change its kernal or other shit??? How many times will it disappoint its users??
first they told since windows mobile uses a different architecture, kernal it cannot be upgraded to wp7 & same with wp8 to wp7 users… Next year they will come up with a wp9 & say it uses a different architecture so it wont be compatible with wp8… so ultimately OEM’s will suffer & Ms will again experience a big failure like winmobile ( grow share till 8-10% & say this stuff doent work)

Nokia better start rolling out meego devices all over the world & be a true leader again by having full control over OS. Elop is a MS guy so he still thinks like MS not like Nokia…

” Dont flow with the tide like others instead stand against it, setup a turbine & creat a huge energy out of it” Thats Nokia!!! this is not expected.

    • It will always be wise for Nokia to give Symban and Meego a chnace and keep them alive and kicking being just a vendoe for MS. But as far as update for current devices is concerned, how single core and lower resolution devices are supposed to get updated to HD display and multicores. Software wise i think features will come and new apps will also arrive with updates like Tango and wp7.8. Lumias are still very smooth devices and with Nokia exclusive apps they are in a leagure apart than the rest.
