Google has officially released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 (Build CP31.260623.010) for supported Pixel smartphones and tablets.
This unexpected release comes directly on the heels of Android 17 QPR1 Beta 7, which introduced late-stage refinements, and follows the milestone reached when Google achieved Android 17 QPR1 Platform Stability in earlier preview builds.
While Quarterly Platform Releases typically conclude after four to six preview iterations, Beta 8 was deployed to immediately patch high-severity system bugs affecting daily device usability, audio output, and biometric authentication across the Android 17 ecosystem.
What’s Fixed in Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8?
According to details highlighted by Android expert Mishaal Rahman, build CP31.260623.010 focuses exclusively on critical bug fixes and stability improvements rather than new user-facing features.
1. Loud Audio Corruption & Static
The Issue: A buffer management flaw inside the audio framework caused unexpected, blaring static and distorted sound.
When it occurred: Triggered randomly during media playback (YouTube, Spotify, local media) or when interacting with incoming system notifications.
The Fix: Google re-architected the buffer handling routine to eliminate audio stream clipping and sudden volume spikes.
2. Broken Fingerprint Authentication
The Issue: Attempting to unlock the device frequently failed because the lock screen failed to invoke the optical or ultrasonic fingerprint sensor routine entirely.
The Fix: Restores reliable sensor triggering on the lock screen and within banking or security-sensitive apps.
3. NFC Service Regression
The Issue: A regression in the background NFC daemon caused tag-reading routines to crash or stall.
The Impact: Prevented users from scanning NFC tags, executing automated routines, or launching web URLs via physical tags.
The Fix: Reverts the buggy service layer, restoring immediate reader responsiveness.
4. Pixel Tablet Dock Disconnections
The Issue: The Pixel Tablet Speaker Dock experienced persistent connection drops when docked, frequently defaulting back to standard tablet audio output.
The Fix: Stabilizes the physical pin connection protocol and underlying docking handshake.
