Xiaomi is preparing to roll out HyperOS 4, bringing a significant visual evolution to its ecosystem. While system-level animations and performance tweaks are key highlights, the most striking change for mobile photography enthusiasts is the completely overhauled Camera UI.

The redesign eliminates legacy visual clutter, aligning the camera viewfinder with the modern design system of HyperOS 4.

What’s New in the HyperOS 4 Camera Interface?

The update shifts away from dense, text-heavy menus in favor of an intuitive layout optimized for one-handed operation.

1. Cleaner Viewfinder & Streamlined Controls

The main shooting screen feels more spacious. Quick controls—such as aspect ratio, timer, grid lines, and flash settings—are now grouped into translucent, floating glassmorphism panels. This gives the live preview screen maximum visibility without obscuring your framing.

2. Unified Typography

Xiaomi has fully integrated its signature MiSans typography into the camera app. Mode selectors (Photo, Video, Portrait, Pro) feature cleaner weight distribution, improved letter spacing, and better legibility under direct sunlight.

3. Redesigned Minimalist Icons

Every icon across the app has been redesigned. Key visual changes include:

  • Simplified Mode Glyphs: Flash, HDR, Macro, and Leica tuning toggles feature consistent line weights.

  • Modernized Settings Grid: The secondary control drawer uses rounded geometric iconography that matches the rest of the HyperOS system settings.

  • Ergonomic Mode Carousel: Switching between primary modes is smoother, supported by refined haptic feedback.

The Catch: Why the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition Won’t Get This UI

While this UI refresh is coming to most mainstream Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices eligible for HyperOS 4, one major flagship is excluded: the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition.

Licensing & Co-Engineering Boundaries

Due to the deep, long-standing co-engineering collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica, Ultra-tier Leica edition devices utilize a custom camera interface designed specifically alongside Leica’s imaging team.

  • Dedicated Custom UI: The Leica Edition features custom iconography (including the classic red dot branding), exclusive viewfinder fonts, unique Leica shutter sound profiles, and dedicated Leica color mode selectors.

  • Preserving Brand Identity: Replacing this co-branded UI with standard HyperOS system elements would breach graphic styling agreements between Xiaomi and Leica.

As a result, while the standard Xiaomi 17 series receives the new unified HyperOS 4 interface, the Leica Edition retains its exclusive, specialized camera application.

Device Compatibility & Rollout

According to firmware tracking updates from Nokiapoweruser, testing for HyperOS 4 is already underway across several regional branches.

Major flagships, including the standard Xiaomi 17 series, Xiaomi 15 series, and select high-end Redmi and POCO devices, are set to receive the updated camera app as part of the initial Android 17-based HyperOS rollout wave.
