Google has officially released a fresh test build for smartphone enthusiasts and developers: Android 17 QPR3 Beta 3. This latest quarterly platform release focuses on refinement, addressing persistent user feedback, restoring requested UI elements, and fixing dozens of underlying system bugs to ensure a smooth daily experience.
Whether you are carrying Google’s newest flagship or keeping an earlier Pixel running smoothly, this update packs several long-awaited tweaks and system-wide optimizations.
Build Numbers & Supported Device Lineup
Google is rolling out two specific build variants depending on your hardware generation:
Build DP11.261016.004: Tailored specifically for the flagship Pixel 11 series (including Pixel 11, Pro, XL, and Fold models).
Build DP11.261016.003: Designed for all other eligible devices enrolled in the Android Beta program (Pixel 6a through Pixel 10 series).
If you are already enrolled in the Android Beta Program, the update will arrive seamlessly as an over-the-air (OTA) download directly on your device.
What’s New in Android 17 QPR3 Beta 3?
Rather than focusing solely on incremental patches, this build introduces visual polish along with the return of several user-requested features that were temporarily missing in earlier builds.
1. The Return of Native App Lock
Security-conscious users can celebrate as native App Lock returns in full force. This feature allows you to require biometric authentication (fingerprint or face unlock) or a PIN before launching sensitive applications, giving you an extra layer of privacy without needing third-party tools.
2. Restored Lock Screen Blur
Google has brought back the aesthetic lock screen depth blur effect. When waking your device or interacting with notifications, background elements gently blur out to create visual hierarchy and improve readability.
3. Dedicated Screenshot Shortcut in Power Menu
Taking full-screen captures is now even easier thanks to a restored Screenshot shortcut directly inside the Power menu. This lets you grab complete screen grabs, including status and navigation bar details, in a single tap.
4. Dedicated Camera Quick Settings Tile
A brand-new Quick Settings tile dedicated to camera access allows users to instantly launch camera modes or adjust camera privacy permissions straight from the notification shade.
Major Bug Fixes & Performance Improvements
Beyond new controls, Android 17 QPR3 Beta 3 resolves 26 reported system issues that impacted usability across previous test releases:
Foldable Screen Glitches Fixed: Resolved an issue where the inner foldable display remained completely black when opening the device.
Lock Screen Wallpaper Bleed: Fixed a bug causing the home wallpaper to overlay improperly on the lock screen after waking the phone.
Recents Overview & App Switching: Eliminated screen flickering when performing home gestures right after quick-switching between apps.
Webcam & Screen Recording: Improved output quality when using your device as a USB webcam and corrected inaccurate status notifications during screen sharing.
Enterprise Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Scans: Resolved WPA-Enterprise PEAP authentication failures and app crashes triggered by null Bluetooth scan callbacks.
