Some change in plans here by Microsoft or may be it was always going to happen as GDR2 has been under testing for long already. We earlier told you that watered-down version of GDR2 will anyways come to normal devices running Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1.
Our “regular sources” now tell us that Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 is getting ready and may be pushed to devices enrolled to developers preview and still on Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 (not opted for Windows 10 for Phones preview). Since the Lumia Denim update roll-out may very well stretch till the end of the March, normal Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 users may have taste of the update sometime later in April-May.
This also gives rise to an interesting speculation and while we don’t have confirmation from our sources about this, the Lumia 1330 / Lumia 1335 and RM-1072 & its family of variants may come running Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 out of the box and we may learn more about GDR2 during the upcoming MWC event.
We just reported leak of Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 screenshots in China and we spotted a new GDR2 build on WPBench. The leaks confirms settings redesign, some home-screen changes but nothing major.
We are trying to explore and may have some info to share about Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 features next, so stay tuned.
