Sources: No Nokia 8 launch today & that official screenshot is fake

We last reported about a purported Nokia 8 official page leak from China. This leaked page had 20/7 on the claimed Nokia 8 render leading everyone to believe that Nokia 8 may have its launch today.

But our sources with knowledge of HMD’s plans tell us that Nokia 8 will not be launched today. What’s more significant though is the information that the “claimed official screenshot” of Nokia 8 page is a fake. So, while Nokia 8 is still planned to see it launch by July end, it will not be unveiled today.

We can expect HMD to soon send invites for the launch of its affordable flagship Nokia 8. Though HMD may like to surprise everyone with immediate launch of Nokia 8, we would prefer it not to be a low-key affair.

    Well, nothing I didn’t warn about 😛

How can it be fake. it clearly shows the Nokia 8 and no other renders were leaked in that angle, so the Nokia 8 pictured here must be the real deal, as you can see by the placement of the sensor under the earpiece (compared to the Nokia 5). So why would someone use a real leaked image of the Nokia 8 to spread wrong info. Why wouldn’t they release it with the real info on it. Everything on the website looks credible: the font, the render has not been seen before and is correct, the software seems correct and even the URL is equivalent to Nokia 6.

I agree. Not accurate does not mean it is fake.

    • That isn’t Nokia 8. Its a Nokia 5. Just look at the volume and power keys. The keys on Nokia 8 are much bigger compared to the ones on Nokia 5. This is a Nokia 5. 🙂

      • Lars

No it is not the Nokia 5. Look at the ambient light sensor. here it is under the earpiece (just like in evleaks renders) while the Nokia 5 has the ambient light sensor on the right side of the earpiece.

So this IS a picture of the Nokia 8, but the date seems to be not the one. I could imagine they postponed it again, maybe due to the recent CEO leave, as you can see on the Evleaks renders it was postponed before, as those say it should have come out 20 June.

july 20 is almost over in china…so

      • 31st July might be the date. 😀

      One word: Photoshop.
I have access to the official Nokia fonts. I could easily forge a Nokia page and claim it’s a printscreen.

As President Orange would say: Fake news.

      • Lars

Except the leak, the image of the phone is not fake. And has not been leaked before.

        • DBS

The supposed “render” is a render of the Nokia 5 with photoshop. Until the phone is officially announced, that’s what I believe is the case. Because I can reproduce every single “render” released using the official renders of the Nokia 5.

          • Lars

Can you? Did you position the ambient light sensor at that exact spot? It is different from the one on the Nokia 5.
The picture is identical to the the one provided by evleaks, who hasn’t been false in a while.
