Samsung has officially responded to reports of a red square or red stain appearing on some Galaxy S26 Ultra displays, reassuring users that the issue is not caused by OLED burn-in or faulty hardware.
The company explained that the display behavior is linked to its new LEAD 2.0™ Privacy Display technology, and confirmed that a software update is already in preparation to resolve the issue.

Samsung: Not OLED burn-in, not a hardware defect
Following numerous user reports and online discussions, Samsung clarified that the display artifact is not permanent panel damage.
According to Samsung:
- The red square or stain is not OLED burn-in
- It is not a manufacturing or hardware defect
- The issue is related to display optimization for the new LEAD 2.0™ Privacy Display technology.
This should reassure Galaxy S26 Ultra owners who were concerned that their devices might require a display replacement.
What causes the Galaxy S26 Ultra display stain?
Samsung says the issue is caused by the display optimization used with LEAD 2.0™ Privacy Display, a new technology that removes the traditional OLED polarizer.
By eliminating the polarizer layer, Samsung aims to deliver several benefits:
- Improved power efficiency
- Better color transmission
- Increased display brightness
- Enhanced overall viewing experience
However, under certain conditions, the optimization can cause a temporary red square or reddish stain to become visible.
The company says the issue may appear:
- Under strong ambient lighting
- When the display is set to maximum brightness
Software update will fix the issue
Samsung has confirmed that the display behavior can be corrected through software color optimization.
The company says:
- A software update is currently being finalized.
- The update will optimize the display’s color correction.
- The fix will be distributed to users in an upcoming software release.
In addition, Samsung service centers have already started applying the software fix to affected devices, indicating that the solution is ready and being deployed ahead of the wider OTA rollout.
No need for display replacement
Since Samsung has confirmed that the issue is software-related, most Galaxy S26 Ultra owners will not need a display replacement.
Users experiencing the red stain are advised to:
- Keep their Galaxy S26 Ultra updated.
- Install the upcoming software update once it becomes available.
- Visit a Samsung service center if they want the fix applied immediately.
Final thoughts
Samsung’s official clarification should put to rest concerns that the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s display suffers from OLED burn-in or a hardware defect. Instead, the issue stems from software optimization for the device’s new LEAD 2.0™ Privacy Display technology.
With Samsung already providing the fix through service centers and preparing an over-the-air software update, affected users should see the issue resolved soon without requiring any hardware repairs.
