Qualcomm today announces the Snapdragon 670 as a successor to the Snapdragon 660. The newer chip got some significant bump spec-wise. Qualcomm AI engine, Qualcomm Kyro CPU, Qualcomm Spectra ISP, Snapdragon X12 LTE modem were the highlights while announcing the chip.
SD670 on paper is almost 2 times faster than its predecessor giving developers the panoply of choices for creating better apps. Speaking of choices, developers will be able to take advantage of the Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK, Hexagonal Neural Network. It also supports Caffe, Caffe2, TensorFlow, TensorFlowLite, and ONNX.
With that stupendous improvement in the AI field, Snapdragon 670 becomes the first 600-tier platform to feature the Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP. That, in turn, means that smartphones with SD670 will be having most of the premium camera features including noise reduction, image stabilization, and active depth sensing. With the introduction of Spectra ISP, the smartphones will consume a lot less power; Qualcomm claims more or less 30 percent reduction in power consumption over the previous generation.
Now looking at the LTE connectivity, the new generation chip comes with X12 LTE modem and claiming a download speed up to 600 Mbps and upload speed up to 150 Mbps. Smartphones manufacturer is expected to come with the latest model of the 600-tier platform later this year.
