HMD has done it again. Nokia 5 is the first Android smartphone to get the September 2017 Android Security update before any of the Google’s own Pixel or Nexus smartphones. Google has not pushed September Security patch to its own devices yet and has not even posted the security Bulletin for September security update.
This happened earlier when Nokia 6 received July Android Security update before all other Android smartphones. Coming to the September update for Nokia 5, it is 142MB in size and only brings the Android patch.
You will either be prompted to download this update or you can check by going to Settings and searching system updates and then by checking for the update.
HMD has been quite consistent in terms of releasing Monthly Security updates and OS updates for Nokia smartphones already available in the market. HMD has also made it clear that all Nokia Android Phones will receive minimum two years of OS update support.
HMD confirmed Android O roll-out to Nokia 3, 5 and 6 when it is released by Google in a statement given to us. Android P the successor to Android O is confirmed too because of the promise of 2-years of update support.
Thanks to many of you who tipped us about this update.
