Kantar’s latest report for 3 months ending August 2013 is out and there are some very encouraging trends emerging for the 3rd Eco-system WP and Nokia in Europe. In EU5 which means big five European markets Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, Nokia is currently 4th largest smartphone vendor trailing behind Sony by a thin margin.
Talking about sales share of WP in EU5, it is around 9.2% in the same period out of which Nokia is responsible for 7.8%. Talking about individual markets in France and UK WP sales share is impressively in double digits at 10.8% and 12%. In Germany, it is at 8.8% and is just less than one percent shy of iOS sales share.
According to the report from KWP, Lumia 520 and 620’s success in Europe is responsible for strong growth of WP in Europe.
Windows Phone’s latest wave of growth is being driven by Nokia’s expansion into the low and mid range market with the Lumia 520 and 620 handsets. These models are hitting the sweet spot with 16 to 24 year-olds and 35 to 49 year-olds, two key groups that look for a balance of price and functionality in their smartphone’.
