MS-Nokia Devices & services business deal has got approval from Indian Fair trade watchdog CCI. Actually for this deal to materialize MS and Nokia may need to get similar approvals in other countries and regions as well. While many Nokia fans still have faint hopes of this deal not going through somehow, stars may be aligning to see it through. According to CCI since both MS and Nokia have different business at this point of time so it is not going to impact competition in India adversely.

The regulator has given the approval in less than two months from the day the transaction was announced. Approving the transaction, Competition Commission of India (CCI) said the combination “is not likely to have appreciable adverse effect on competition in India.”

“As regards the proposed combination, it is noticed that in India, while Nokia is active in the D&S (Devices & Services) business of mobile handsets, Microsoft is not active in that business,” CCI said in its order dated October 24 but made public on Tuesday.
