Judge rules against Interdigital in the patent infringement case against Nokia and others.

We wouldn’t blame you for not able to recall this, but some time back a company called “InterDigital” sued Nokia and other companies for infringement of 7 of its patents. Now, we know Nokia’s strong position in case of patents ownership, so this was a bit of surprise then!! But what has come today as the judgement is obviously no surprise. The Judge has ruled that the one patent which may have been infringed is invalid and other six patents asserted were not infringed. InterDigital shares took quite a hit after this judgement.

While InterDigital said it will petition the International Trade Commission for review of the judge’s initial determination, but it is hard to imagine Nokia violating others’ patents, because they had willingly licensed tech from other if needed.
