#Jolla announces compatibility of “#Sailfish” OS with #Android apps & Hardware!! Pre-orders to re-open.

Untitled3So, this is our first post about “Jolla” a company founded by many ex-Nokians who were working on Meego earlier. So, the company has just announced a major milestone where their “Sailfish” operating system which is based on gestures and swipes like N9’s “Swipe” OS is now fully compatible with Android apps.

Users enjoying the unique gesture-based and modern Sailfish OS user experience will be able to take full advantage of the Android application ecosystem available through various app stores globally. Jolla will cooperate with leading global app stores to ensure users can seamlessly download Android apps just as they would do on any Android device. “For example, highly popular apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Spotify run directly on Sailfish OS. Also Chinese WeChat – already with over 400 million users – runs on Sailfish OS,” says Jolla CEO Tomi Pienimäki.

Jolla has also let it know that the Sailfish OS is now compatible with many chipsets and hardware configuration common to Android.

Jolla believes that this breakthrough offers growth opportunities of significant scale for Sailfish OS globally, especially in China. “We believe Sailfish with Android compatibility is a highly relevant mobile operating system option for major mobile companies in Europe and in Asia. We are already in discussions with several major Asianvendors regarding this opportunity,” says Tomi Pienimäki.

Finally, second batch of pre-orders for Jolla phone will re-open this week,

“Due to extremely positive feedback and increased demand in the past weeks, we are offering another pre-order opportunity for our second production batch later this week through jolla.com. This will be targeted to Finnish customers who want to express their passion for the Finnish mobile industry,” Pienimäki concludes.

We Nokia users don’t care what you use in 4 months as long as it users Here on it ,right? I wish Jolla the best, though I personally wish the font was bigger. With the N9 I thought there was too much wasted space in the tile. There were good and hoped corrections. It had the best notification page and feed page in history, but big up the font size please. As Nokia users, we can use anything that uses Here. Hopefully HTC will feel panic in the U.S. market and license the 41MP Pureview and all other up and coming smartphone companies in India and China. Even Jolla could license the camera to go along with their license to OEMs. Mass appeal then Could we see the Nokia Glasses brought to market by ZTE? In 4 months its all up for grabs…..and licenses.

Nokia still exists.. and will exist for years. No need to change the name, but as Nokia will not make phones for possibly 1-2 years, we are free to write on any OS and device and preferably those which are more related to Nokia 🙂
