HMD releases kernel source code for Nokia 3.1 along with Nokia 8, Nokia 6, Nokia 3 and Nokia 1 which were already available. This is quite surprising as Nokia 3.1 just announced a few days back and it is still not available on the market for purchase. Smartphone manufacturers usually come with source code within a month or two of its release.
Kernel source code manages all the interactions that we do with our smartphones in layman’s term it acts as a connecting link between hardware and software. Unlike Windows and iOS, Android kernel source code is always available which enables various developer groups to develop AOSP-based ROMS with ease. Nokia though always comes with stock android but unlike Xiomi which always delays their kernel source code release, HMD is kind enough to release the source codes much before Nokia 3.1’s availability.
It will be interesting to see if HMD ever plans to build a Custom ROM for its NOKIA Android devices like Xiomi does with their MI Android smartphones. As of now, the company is quite happy with stock Android and currently enjoying Nokia 3.1‘s success as it has made it into the list of Google’s Android Enterprise Recommended smartphones. As of now, HMD is all in with stock Android.
