We had exclusively reported about HMD working on a 5G Nokia value flagship that may be powered by a Snapdragon 7XX processor. Now, HMD CPO Juho has confirmed to Digital Trends in an interview that HMD is indeed working on a 5G Nokia value flagship.
This Nokia value flagship is targeted at 2020 and will be priced at half the price of the 5G flagships available now. Since HMD doesn’t have a magic wand to automatically make the component costs low, it is wise to believe that it won’t be the real 5G Nokia flagship that we expect coming with Snapdragon 855 but rather a value flagship smartphone like Nokia 8.1.
Currently, most of the available 5G capable smartphones are priced around $1000 hence one can expect the Nokia value flagship to be priced around $500 at the time of launch.
HMD is also working with Qualcomm, Nokia and the US carriers to get the strategy going for its 5G value flagship, Juho confirmed in his interview. Currently, 5G interoperability is not available across operators and HMD may need to bring many carrier-locked variants for the 5G value flagship.
Thanks dOrso for the tip. Cheers!!
