Exclusive: Nokia 6 China variant gets Google Play Store support with the July update (Optional Feature)

Great news for those with a Nokia 6 China variant TA-1000!! The July update for Nokia 6 China variant is rolling out with July 2017 Android security patch, fix for the camera and one very interesting hidden or unmentioned change.

With this update, Nokia 6 TA-1000 variant finally has optional support for Google services, which means you can download and install Google Play Store APK, once you have installed this July update. This has been confirmed to Nokiapoweruser by sources with knowledge of this update.

So, while the update itself will not bring Google Play Store you would be able to install Play Store yourself using its APK file (Download link at end of the article). Keep in mind that once you have installed Google Play Store you won’t be able to uninstall it.

The update is 380MB in size and as the changelog suggests only mentions,

  • Google July Security Patch
  • Fix camera issue in Arabic language

But we can also add hidden support for Google Services to this list.

If you remember, we told you that July Security update for Nokia 6 China variant is in works. It probably took more time than Nokia 6 Taiwan and Hong Kong variants because it had this hidden feature to test. HMD was the first one to roll-out the July Android security update to its Nokia 6 Taiwan and Hong Kong variants beating even Google.

Nokia 6 China variant TA-1000 comes with locked bootloader making it nearly impossible to root and install Google services. There is no well-known method to root it till date. So, this update comes as a reprieve for all those Nokia fans and enthusiasts who bought Nokia 6 China variant at a premium to just have the feel of new Nokia.

You can download the Google Play Store APK by clicking on the link below.
