This one was certainly coming. After seeing 808 PureView trouncing each and every reputed smartphone cam in their shootout, CNET decided to do a shootout between 808 PureView and advanced compact camera Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5. And guess what, 808 PureView trumps the compact in low light performance retaining better details and better noise performance. Not only this “Shutter lag” wise and “Color accuracy” wise also it performs better than the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5.
This made CNET conclude that “if image quality is concerned 808 PureView and easily replace the compact cameras”. Good comeback anyways for CNET after their 808 PureView VS iPhone 4S shootout fiasco.
Overall, we think that the Nokia PureView is capable of replacing your regular compact camera, where image quality is concerned. The smartphone impressed us with its excellent low-light performance and image detail which we attribute it to its large 41-megapixel image sensor.
