We had earlier reported via our sources that GDR1 update will follow Windows Phone 8.1 roll out quickly and will be mostly focused on “Fixes and performance improvements”, though there may be some new features as well. Now, a report from Neowin claims that Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 is going to RTM soon, possibly this week.
Here, we can add a bit from our side. As per the info we have, Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 may RTM by mid-July and the developer preview enabled devices may get the update in early to mid August, though a bit of delay can take it to late August as well.
Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1 will bring the native folders support apart form fixes and performance improvements. Again GDR2 may be the one to bring broader hardware support and new features. Read more about GDR2 here. Also, GDR2 may hit dev preview devices somewhere in late October – November timeframe. The leaked Fall Lumia flagship Mclaren will follow GDR2 release with new supported hardware. Read about McLaren’s probable specs here.
