In 2019 , Nokia fans were eagerly waiting for the next Pureview device. The long hiatus after the Lumia 950 series raised the bar even higher. At a time where devices were having additional telephoto and ultrawide capture or even larger sensors, it took a while for many to accept that it was just 5 standard camera. At its launch, we understood that this device is suppose to be revolutionary and is aimed to compete in the realms of DSLR.
The Nokia 9 Pureview with its penta camera setup is supposed to capture a huge amount of information, anywhere between 60- 300 MP worth of data. The lens are all configured to capture lights from all angle. The final result would be an image, sharper than any other camera out there, with better depth capture and a DSLR like bokeh effect and the ability to shoot in monochrome natively.
Unfortunately , the expectations of the fans were not met, leading to disappointment and even return of the product. The few that knew what the device is capable of doing ,continue to explore more and go beyond its limitation.
Nokia 9 Pureview
The Nokia 9 Pureview explores the path less taken. Emphasizing on hardware based solution for something achievable by software. The promises for what the device could do was not realised, failing miserably in low light capture and utilizing the depth map for better bokeh.
Images turn out more contrasty than they actually are, low light was far from expected, bokeh was no better than what software could achieve and most annoyingly, the camera crashes every now and then.
BUT…….
Every now and then, if you take your time with it, treat it with some love and respect, the Nokia 9 Pureview gives you beautiful shots that just looks far more premium than many devices out there.
And once you see how rich the RAW is, and get yourself familiar with Snapseed or LR editing apps, this is when you start to appreciate the Nokia 9 Pureview for what it was meant to be all along.
This is a short tribute video to the Pureviews that we love.
