Samsung is officially rolling out the first One UI 9.0 beta update based on Android 17 for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Galaxy S24 series owners in select regions, including India, South Korea, and the US, can now sign up via the Samsung Members app to experience the brand-new software overhaul before its stable public release.
If you’re eager to see what Samsung has packed into this initial build, here is the full changelog detailing everything new in One UI 9.0 Beta 1.
More Customizable Quick Panel
Taking personalization a step further, the updated Quick Panel gives you much more freedom over how your everyday controls look and feel:
Adjust the physical sizing of the volume, brightness, and media player controls directly.
Separate the sound mode button from the main volume slider for faster, one-tap access.
Samsung DeX Enhancements
Desktop mode on Galaxy phones gets a notable usability bump:
Moving active app windows from one virtual desktop workspace to another is now smoother using the top window menu bar.
Live desktop previews are placed right at the top of the Recents screen, allowing you to jump between desktop configurations with a single tap.
Do More with Notes
Samsung Notes adds handy visual tools:
Tape Feature: Hide parts of your notes or study cards behind digital tape and peel them back when you’re ready to check your answers.
Expanded Pen Collection: A variety of new digital pens, line options, and drawing styles have been added to standard tools.
Location Access Transparency
Privacy management gets a persistent real-time visual indicator:
A high-visibility blue icon now displays in the status bar whenever an app accesses your real-time location.
Tap the icon directly inside the Quick Panel to open an overlay showing exactly which application requested permission.
Discover New Accessibility Features
Samsung has streamlined how users locate and set up assistive tools:
A dedicated What’s New page is now available in the main Accessibility settings menu to highlight fresh feature drops.
Text Spotlight for Easier Reading
Reading small fonts across the system interface just got significantly easier:
Tap any piece of on-screen text to expand and highlight it inside its own floating preview window.
Fully adjust font size, accent colors, and backdrops to fit your visual preferences.
Physical Keyboard & Mouse Keys Enhancements
For setups utilizing external input hardware:
Use dedicated physical keyboard shortcuts to jump straight to core Accessibility controls without needing screen touches.
Customize cursor movement speed and acceleration controls under Mouse Keys, or turn your physical number pad into a direct directional pointer.
Replace Swipe with Single Tap
Finding this convenience gesture is now much simpler. The option to swap complex multi-finger swipes for simple single taps has moved directly under the Dexterity and Interaction menu.
Select to Speak
Read out specific elements on command without turning on the full TalkBack experience. Drag to highlight text or select an on-screen image to hear a clear audio breakdown.
Improved TalkBack Updates
Thanks to ongoing joint engineering between Samsung and Google, TalkBack features have been unified under a shared framework. Future accessibility updates can now be downloaded directly from the Google Play Store as standard app updates.
