Report: Rajeev Suri may be the next Nokia CEO.

Rajeev Suri, the NSN CEO has been one of the likeliest candidates to lead the new Nokia along with Nokia CFO Timo Ihamuotila. But if the latest report from Finnish news paper Helsingin Sanomat has to be believed, Suri has emerged as the strongest candidate for Nokia CEO job. The newspaper quotes its local and foreign sources for this report and also mentions that the Nokia-MS deal closure may happen by end of this month and then Nokia may announce new CEO name.

Network equipment and mobile phones manufacturing by Nokia, the board intends to appoint the company’s new CEO Rajeev Suri, tell the informed foreign and domestic sources.

Formally, the Government has not yet decided on the appointment, but Suri is the strongest of the candidates, according to knowledgeable. Nokia does not want to comment on it in any way.

The board says the nomination in the next few weeks, after the mobile phone business has been sold the software company Microsoft. Phone business by the end of the current month should be sold to Microsoft.

Nokia India counsel has revealed during the tax-case hearing in India yesterday that the deal may get closed within 20 days, as the hurdles faced in China are also cleared.

Will he keep the wearables and hardware division alive, or turn Nokia into NSN I wonder?

Don’t stereotype a CEO, that too a successful one. Nadella has been a hardware (server) man most of his work-life but now he is responsible for all Microsoft software / hardware. It is all about future strategy and then CEO’s might comes into picture. Suri has proved himself as a capable manager and visionary leader. So, while the recent news from Nokia put HERE Maps and ATD as the key growth drivers and now add to that Suri’s capability should prove to be a winning formula. Still my statement has a fair amount of hope, but my gut feel says he will prove to be the right man for CEO Job.

I agree. He has done a very good job at NSN at turning around a unit in a very, very hard time of global economy. I’m sure he will do the same with the rest of the units. He seems like a very good numbers man along with innovation, something Nokia has needed as a whole for a long time. The security central opening in Berlin within the NSN Berlin unit may point to a Nokia direction also, certainly timely with the NSA news everyday. The India tax news certainly a distraction for him but something he can cope with.
