NSN has now confirmed it officially that Taiwan’s largest operator Chungwa Telecom has chosen it as one of the LTE equipment suppliers. Not only this, the operator also extended an existing contract with NSN as sole supplier of its 3G HSPA+ network.
Chunghwa Telecom, the largest operator in Taiwan with over 10 million mobile subscribers, has chosen Nokia Solutions and Networks as a supplier to its 4G LTE network, targeting a fast and smooth roll-out in 2014. In addition, the operator extended its existing contract with NSN as sole supplier of its island-wide 3G HSPA+ network to further increase the network capacity.
Digitimes reports that Chungwa Telecom in Taiwan has chosen NSN as one of the vendors to supply 4G base station equipment for its 4G network implementation. Chunghwa Telecom plans to start 4G mobile communications operations in the second half of 2014 and aims to reach 300,000 subscribers by the end of the year.
The other vendor to supply 4G base station equipment is Ericsson. The total deal value is USD 211 million, though it is not clear from the source article, what is NSN’s share in this deal value.
CHT on December 3 announced the procurement of 4G core network equipment from Ericsson and 4G base station equipment from Ericsson and Nokia Solutions and Networks at a total value of NT$6.26 billion (US$211 million).
