Nokia Mobile yesterday announced that Nokia X20 will be the part of Android 12 Developer preview program. Nokia Mobile has now updated its Developer Preview page with some more details about Android 12 dev preview for Nokia X20.
It seems that Nokia Mobile won’t allow OTA installation of the Android 12 dev builds on Nokia X20 5G and users will need to sideload the builds. This when Google has already announced Android 12 Beta program which is available for both developers and enthusiasts at its I/O event. So, it is not clear why Nokia Mobile refers to the program as dev program and not Beta.
The Android 12 Beta builds are usually safer than Dev program builds. If Android 12 dev program or Beta builds won’t be available OTA, that might limit feedback Nokia Mobile required from this program.
We’re pleased to announce that an Android 12 preview build will be released for Nokia X20 devices. This will give developers the opportunity to test their apps on software ahead of the Android 12 general release.
A quick reminder that preview builds are for developers only. They are not suitable for regular use and some applications won’t be supported. OTA (over-the-air) installation will not be available for the Android 12 preview build, so a strong understanding of the sideloading process will be required.
Stay tuned for more information.
