Introduction

Just moments ago, HMD Global announced the new Nokia G42 5G, which will be available starting tomorrow in the UK at a price of £199. Purple seems to be the trend this time around, and the Nokia G42 5G comes in a stunning Digital Lavender colour- which is the 2023 Colour of the Year and the Pink and the Grey option will be available soon.

But, why is the Nokia G42 5G important?

The Nokia G42 5G

The Nokia G42 5G is the first 5G  device by HMD Global that is made in partnership with iFixit, which makes spare parts accessible. What this means is that, for as low as £18.99, you can actually replace parts of your device, YOURSELF!

Built with QuickFix repairability, you can replace cracked screens, damaged charging ports and even  replace the battery all by yourself with the guides and parts provided by iFixit.

The back cover is made of 65% recycled material and it’s boxed in FSC-certified mixed packaging. This means, when you purchase the Nokia G42 5G, you can rest assured that this device is made with sustainability in mind, both hardware and software. With 2 years of OS  and 3 years of security updates and launching with Android 13 onboard, your device is guaranteed to feel new all the way up to Android 15.

The large 5000mAh battery, is advertised to give you up to 3 days of battery life in between charges and the battery is rated to hold up to 80% of its original charging capacity after 800 full charging cycle, which is about 4 years of use!!!

The Experience

At the heart of Nokia G42 5G is the SD480+ 5G platform, with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. For extra boost in performance, the Nokia G42 is also capable of memory extension of up to 5GB VRAM, and the storage can be expanded to support up to ITB of microSD card.

The 6.5 in HD display with 90Hz refresh rate is protected with Gorilla Glass 3 and has brightness of 450 nits which goes all the way up to 560nits with brightness boost, which means you can experience good visibility even in a bright sunny day.

The triple sensor is back now with a main 50MP camera, a 2MP depth and 2MP macro camera. What is interesting here is that the Nokia G42 5G will be using the latest imaging algorithm, similar to Nokia X30 5G, and will bring in features like Flash Shot mode, Night mode 2.0, AI Portrait and OZO 3D audio capture.

The Nokia G42 5G supports USB -C charging( USB 2.0),OTG and a 20W fast charging. It also includes a side finger print scanner, biometric face unlock and OZO audio playback.
