“Samsung Galaxy Y” is the device, with which Samsung has posed a big challenge to Nokia’s domination of low-end devices market. It is full touch device running “Android” and Samsung supported this device with catchy ads and it is a big hit in price sensitive markets like India. Nokia has now come back strongly with revelation of full touch Asha devices 305, 306 and 311. We have earlier posted a comparison between the three and Asha 311 is leader of the pack obviously and targeted to get the market back from likes of Samsung Galaxy Y. So, it is very natural that people will compare the two devices. For helping such prospective customers we are putting a comparison between Asha 311 and Samsung Galaxy Y, showing where one has the upper hand on the other.
Asha 311 is better than Galaxy Y:
- Better 3G network coverage with five frequencies vs only two frequencies of Galaxy Y. Better download speeds. HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps vs only HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps of Galaxy Y.
- Better screen resolution (155 ppi vs 133 ppi pixel density). Nokia’s CBD type display with great outdoor visibility.
- Corning Gorilla glass protection for display.
- 3.2 MP camera compared to 2 MP camera of Galaxy Y.
- 1 Ghz processor clocking speed vs 830 Mhz processor speed of Galaxy Y
- Swipe OS of Nokia vs Android’s Touchwiz. Swipe makes Asha 311 easier and more stylish to use.
- USB on the go support.
Galaxy Y is better than Asha 311:
- Wifi hotspot functionality.
- 11.5 mm thickness vs 12.9 mm thickness of Asha 311.
- 180 MB, 290 MB user available RAM vs 140 MB, 256 MB ROM, 128 MB RAM
So here we can see that Galaxy Y is slightly thinner than Asha 311 and also wifi hotspot functionality is missing from Asha 311 for now. But Asha 311 beats Galaxy Y in many vital aspects like better download speeds, better processor speed, display quality, outdoor visibility, screen protection with gorilla glass and better camera. Which means a faster and quicker device with better display, outdoor visibility and better protection. Also camera wise there is huge difference in quality. Now combine this with “Swipe OS” borrowed from Nokia N9 and ease of usability and style kicks in. Obviously Nokia has a winner on their hand!!
Now, what is needed from Nokia is timely device release and advertisement support, so that it reaches to market and to minds of customer as soon as possible.
