Introduction

The 2019 Nokia 9 Pureview , a highly experimental and one of a kind device has started to age for many. In my Part 1 video, I shared the issues that I face with one of my Nokia 9 Pureview as well as shared the replacement parts. Purchasing the right parts for this device has been the greatest challenge before, but now, it is facing an even greater risk.

The Nokia 9 Pureview

For many, the Nokia 9 Pureview continues to give them joy with its imaging capabilities. The last flagship by HMD Global , might have been too early to the market, but sadly, it would not have mattered much. The Nokia 9 Pureview, continues to teach me something new , even after all these years.

The Nokia 9 Pureview has one older brother ,the Light L16. Created around the same period, the issues surrounding this company helps to understand the difficult decision that HMD made back then. The Light L16 was essentially another attempt to create a pocketable DSLR camera using modern computational photography. Sample images from the Light L16 shows similar results as the miniaturized system used on Nokia 9 Pureview. Sadly , even the USD2000 L16 was left unfinished and soon after the founders left , the patents were bought by other company.

The Nokia 9 Pureview was essentially the child from the collaboration of Sony, Light and HMD back then. Has the collaboration been successful, we would have come to accept that what made the Nokia 9 special , would be seen also in competitor devices, hence making the Pureview branding irrelevant. The so called Flux capacitor, the brains behind this unique algorithm seems to be the culprit to its many issues.

HMD needed a breakthrough device, something to put the Pureview branding back to the top, and rushed into this collaboration when even L16 remained unpolished . This gamble did not turn out well for them and for end users. HMD shied away from making any future flagship devices and end users were left disgruntled with the many issues plaguing the camera performance.

Over the years, many have tried to explore and test among themselves ,ways to get the camera to function well as it was abandoned too soon. This was also as such, to fix the battery drain issue and to replace a broken camera, in an attempt to bring it back to its full potential.

Warning ahead, it DID NOT turn out as what I expected. With this so called experiment of my own, I realize there is one inevitable outcome. Take extreme good care of the Nokia 9 Pureview you have. It can not be replaced.
