Introduction

The feature phone segment seems to be gaining traction in many countries and not just the developing ones. Digital detox is no longer just a concept, but its something that many are actually doing to regain back life the way it should be. While smartphone has become an integral part of our life, it opens to too many channels that does impact our health. From being glued to social media apps to games, to just scrolling endless videos and even interacting with unknown strangers, the use of smartphone is essentially detrimental to those who are not able to control themself.

This is where the feature phone comes in. Spend less time with the phone, and more on what actually matters.

Nokia 6500c

The Nokia 6500 classic was launched in 2007. This is when the Symbian S60 platform was dominating. This smartphone platform has a lot built into it which is not really needed for those who does not need all the additional capabilities offered by it. The Nokia 6500c runs on S40 platform which offers a robust experience. This is a premium feature phone that is crafted beautifully using brushed aluminum and plastic.

At just 9.5mm thickness, it does not have any buttons on the sides and even a headphone jack. There is a micro USB port on top which is among the first for Nokia device back then. The 2inch screen is crisp and boasts 16million colors. The keypad might seem tightly cramped but the ridges on each key and good travel distance gives you a satisfactory outcome.

Though the Nokia 6500c lacks a headphone jack , it actually supports advanced Bluetooth 2.0 function with a dedicated mode to pair with audio accessory. This enables easy pairing and disconnection with the Bluetooth earbuds, similar to how many of the current Bluetooth 5.0 devices behave.

You can catch the advance pairing feature in action here:

Can you actually enjoy this 17 year old device?

Though lacking WiFi, the Nokia 6500c is a 3G device and in many countries, the 3G network is still active. In Malaysia, the Nokia 6500c is still very much useable as it can connect to the 2G network and tap into the 2.5G EDGE for browsing purposes. Thanks to JAVA app support and the abundant free JAVA apps in the net and the built in 1GB storage , you get to install tons of games, apps, Opera Mini browser and more.

What I really like about the Nokia 6500c is that unlike many other feature phone this days, it looks sleek, premium and compact. In fact it seems to be designed much better than most feature phones we see these days.

We are just days away from new product announcement from HMD Global and it will be interesting to see if there would be A 5G feature phone as per their rebranded illustrations . As always, stay safe and stay connected and reach me out in X for more updates on the go https://twitter.com/theoriginal086.
