Nokia 3 owners may be in for some good news soon as updates for the phone may come faster finally. MediaTek has partnered with Google for its GMS Express program. GMS Express is a program designed by Google to provide approved Android software solutions, including Google Mobile Services (GMS) and Google Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) certification, to device makers.
Until now Nokia 3 has been usually the last of all Nokia Android phones to get both Security and OS updates. In fact, the Andorid 7.1.2 update that has already rolled out to Nokia 5 and 6 is yet to come to Nokia 3. The blame for this delay was again attributed to MediaTek’s delay in providing updated drivers.
After MediaTek joining GMS express program, both the OS update and security updates will roll-out much quicker.
MediaTek customers – OEMs and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) – can reduce the typical compatibility certification process from three months to four weeks. They also receive frequent security patches to reduce risks of device hacking.
