For those who are following on X, I shared about the Nokia 108 4G which quietly went on sale a couple of weeks ago in Asian markets. And a few days after that, the Nokia 125 4G was introduced as well, which is essentially the same device with a camera module.
At this point of time, the numerical designation for each model, as well as the choice of either HMD or Nokia branding seems to be quite confusing , so, I will just take each model as what they are, rather than attaching additional value to the model number.
Nokia 125 4G
In most markets, feature phones are still relevant, either as a primary device or a back up device. And HMD has been actively improving the feature phone segment with better design, better material, not just focusing on the functionality part of the device but also the aesthetic appeal of it.
The Nokia 125 4G comes in 2 different color options , Titanium and Blue. My unit here is Blue in color ,but as can be seen in the video below, depending on the lighting, it transitions from blue to purple. Essentially, a dual sim 4G device with expansion slot that can accommodate a 32GB micro SD card with a 1450mAh battery, the Nokia 125 4G shares similar core experience to the previous feature phones by HMD. Powered by S30+ platform, the experience is identical. However, since the unit is meant for the Chinese market, it does not come with the Cloud App option and this may be different if the device is officially brought in to other markets.
I wont be running through the specifications but to highlight certain key features, the Nokia 125 4G features USB C charging port, has a VGA camera over the rear with flash with cool filter options for both photos and videos, has its own music player, supports wireless FM solution and has parental lock features to restrict certain functions of the device.
With that said, why would you want to consider the Nokia 125 4G ? I feel, what truly caught my attention , other than the texturing over the rear and its cool color gradient is the way HMD focused on the feel of the device, which is one area that is neglected in the feature phone segment. The back panel can be easily removed, and if you have seen my previous videos, you would have noticed the struggle of removing the back panels in come of the previous devices. The well spaced elevated backlit keypad feels extra comfortable for typing, as if each buttons are made of soft cushion. But the most interesting finding is how beautiful the vibration is on the device. It feels so refined and smooth and its a much better than the experience on the Skyline!
The idea of Cloud App and parental control are good options that adds value to the device as well as the option to limit the usage and exposure to the younger audience .
You can catch the Nokia 125 4G in all its glory here:
My suggestion to HMD is to create a dedicated rich text app, probably name it as HMD Chat, make it available cross platform , so text and multimedia can be shared across this devices using data ,instead of the traditional SMS or MMS. This would definitely make it a very interesting purchase , and probably end up as a key selling point for their feature phone segment one day.
