Lumia Living Images Tutorial: Enabling capture, saving Living images as a 720p video

Living images 2Living images is a very cool feature of Nokia Camera, which allows you to not only capture an image, when you press the shutter or camera button, but also captures a small video of the subject, starting seconds ago till the “moment of image capture”.

So, in case you are wondering, how to capture “Living images” on your supported devices Lumia 730, Lumia 830, Lumia 930, Lumia Icon and Lumia 1520, then we have you covered now. We will also let you know how to save Living images as a 720p mp4 video.

For enabling your Lumia to capture Living images, you need to:

Open the Nokia Camera—–>Go to Settings———>Put Living images capture set as on. You can also enable play Living images on, so that when you go to Gallery from Nokia Camera, these automatically play for you.

Now, when you have captured Living images, here is what you need to know,

1) In your photo gallery, you will see only the image, but when you go to gallery from Nokia Camera, you see Living images play.

2) When you sync to PC using “Windows Phone app for desktop”, you just get the captured image, but you can access the Living images file by browsing the files.

How to save the Living images as 720p videos on your Phone or PC:

Install “Files”, the official Windows Phone File manager on your phone.

After installation, launch the Files app, go to Pictures——->Camera Roll and you can see three files for every captured Living image.

The file with .mp4.thm extension is of interest here.

Living image filesWhat you need to do is to tap and hold on this file to see the menu.

Now, rename this file as .mp4 by deleting .thm and you have a 720p video file of your Living image.

Or

Connect your device to PC——–>Go to folders on your devices by clicking “on your device’s name from my computer”.

Now, go to Pictures——->Camera Roll and you can see three files for every capture Living image.

The file with .mp4.thm extension is of interest here.

Now, what you need to do is to rename this file as .mp4 by deleting .thm and you have a 720p video file of your Living image.

    Thanks for the info. Can this be done on the phone with any of the file browsing apps? I love Living Images but since I can’t share them with anyone it’s kinda lame.

        Ok, cool. Thanks. Now I have another question maybe you can help me with. If you send your pic to another phone that has living images enable, with the living image show up. Don’t know anyone else with a 1520 to test it out
