Xiaomi’s camera app has spent years feeling like a brilliant tool trapped in a separate design system. HyperOS 4 finally fixes that.
With this major update, Xiaomi didn’t just tweak a few icons—they overhauled the UI, viewfinder balance, and navigation logic to bring total visual harmony to the camera experience.
1. Unified System Aesthetics
The camera app no longer feels like an isolated third-party utility. All internal system icons and the frosted-glass blur materials inside the swipe-up menu now match the core HyperOS 4 design system.
2. Centered Viewfinder & Better Ergonomics
Framing shots on large modern phones used to require awkward hand adjustments. HyperOS 4 shifts the core controls upward and centers the preview window:
One-Handed Comfort: Main toggles rest closer to natural thumb reach.
Balanced Framing: Reduces visual off-centering while composing shots.
3. Clearer Mode Switching
No more guessing what a button does. The logic for switching between shooting modes is now fully unified, backed by distinct, context-aware icons that eliminate UI confusion.
4. Seamless Aspect-Ratio Transitions
Switching between Photo, Portrait, Video, and Pro modes previously caused a jarring screen jump. HyperOS 4 unifies the cross-mode window sizing, creating smooth transitions without frame flickering.
5. Direct Access to Beauty & Filters
Instead of hiding creative tools behind nested menus, Beauty mode and Filters now feature dedicated, top-level icons on the main interface for instant access.
6. Fixed Viewfinder & Toolbar Glitches
Persistent user interface bugs have been cleared up. The secondary toolbar no longer gets stuck along screen edges, and floating controls no longer block your view of the viewfinder.
7. Upgraded Watermark Options
The watermark engine gets a fresh look featuring a new red dot update indicator. Plus, you can now manually pull the latest watermark designs right from the settings page.
8. Reordered Settings Menu
The Camera Settings layout has been reorganized around how people actually use it. Clear secondary headers make finding specific options much faster.
9. EV Exposure Adjustment Shift
The manual EV (Exposure Value) control has been moved into the swipe-up menu to keep the main viewfinder clean. While this streamlines the view, Xiaomi is evaluating user feedback regarding quick-access placement for future minor patches.
