Huawei has officially opened the public floodgates, kicking off the HarmonyOS 7 Open Beta program. Departing completely from legacy runtime frameworks, HarmonyOS 7 marks Huawei’s aggressive leap into the “agent era”—offering an OS built around full-stack agentic artificial intelligence, an overhauled spatial design language, and unified cross-device continuity.
For a deeper look at the architectural journey leading up to this release, check out NPowerUser’s coverage of the early HarmonyOS 7 Developer Beta announced at HDC 2026 and their full breakdown of the HarmonyOS 7 beta recruitment schedule and eligible devices list.
Key Highlights & What’s New in HarmonyOS 7
1. 3D Spatial Design & Liquid Visuals
HarmonyOS 7 introduces a refreshed Spatial UI design system that leverages software-based rendering to bring true physical depth across lock screens, control panels, and desktop widgets. Interactive particle lighting effects respond dynamically as you slide brightness or volume controls, while lock screen elements seamlessly blend with natural light-and-shadow wallpapers.
2. System-Wide Agentic AI Framework 2.0
Driven by an upgraded Celia AI Assistant, HarmonyOS 7 transitions from basic voice commands to multi-step autonomous tasks. Connected directly to over 2,000 specialized AI agents, Celia can execute complex in-app actions, automate document summaries through AI Minutes, and handle real-time bilingual voice-to-text translations.
3. Unlocked Multi-Device Collaboration
Cross-device continuity receives a massive functional overhaul. Under HarmonyOS 7, users can interact with connected smartphones directly from a Huawei MatePad tablet or PC—even when the smartphone screen remains locked. Biometric authentication (face or fingerprint) performed on the tablet unlocks the paired phone instantly to streamline drag-and-drop file transfers.
4. Real-Time Ray Tracing & Performance Boosts
Underneath the interface, optimizations yield up to a 15% system efficiency gain alongside hardware-accelerated real-time ray tracing support for heavy mobile gaming. Lighting and reflections in supported game titles now adapt in real-time to in-game environments.
5. Next-Gen Security & Anti-Fraud
To protect user communication, the system introduces a dedicated AI Anti-Fraud platform. It actively scans for malicious QR codes, flags overseas spoofed call signatures, monitors web impersonation, and provides real-time AI voice scam detection during active phone calls.
Eligible Devices for HarmonyOS 7 Open Beta
The initial wave of Open Beta eligibility covers Huawei’s premier flagship lineups across smartphones, foldables, and tablets:
Mate Series: Huawei Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro+, Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design
Foldables: Huawei Mate X7, Mate XT Master Edition
Pura & Nova Series: Huawei Pura 90 series, Pura X, Nova 15 Pro / Ultra
Tablets: Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2-inch / 12.2-inch series
How to Join the Open Beta
If you own a compatible mainland China-spec device, you can register immediately through the system UI without needing a manual local package installation:
Open the My Huawei (我的华为) app on your device.
Tap on the Upgrade Early Access (升级尝鲜) banner on the homepage.
Select Open Beta Registration and choose your enrolled device model.
Accept the beta user agreement and tap Apply.
Once approved, head to Settings > System & Updates > Software Update to download the OTA package.
Note: Because HarmonyOS 7 operates on a pure microkernel architecture, verify that your most critical daily apps have updated native HarmonyOS builds ready before upgrading. Always back up your personal data to Huawei Cloud prior to installation.
