HMD just unveiled their products and services at MWC just moments ago, and I had the opportunity to talk to Mr Adam Ferguson who was kind enough to explain HMD’s plan for 2025. HMD is really living up to its name, Human Mobile Device and it is safe to say, that when it comes to safety and mental health, HMD is leading the way.
So, let’s go through each of the devices announced at MWC!
HMD Fusion X1
I am glad that HMD is continuing the Fusion device in 2025, as this gives the design and concept more time to mature. Essentially, it is the Fusion device that we know, but it is running on a slightly different software. The X1 is the “first smartphone for teens” made in partnership with Xplora subscription as low as €4.99 per month. This is not just another app that would be monitoring the activities and whereabouts of your kids.
The safety integration is at OS level that would make it near impossible to bypass the restrictions and settings. It allows parents to download a companion app and let them decide on the access to social media, internet, continuous live tracking at 20s interval, emergency SOS calling, low battery alert and remote access. What truly sets this apart as just another parental monitoring app is the safe zone feature that automatically alerts the parents when the child leaves the safe zone. School Mode is another brilliant feature that would restrict apps and features to reduce distractions .
But, are our kids truly safe from the harsh reality outside? Can we truly monitor our kids all the time? We have seen various forms of AI but this one takes the cake! HMD will bring in real time protection with SafeToNet which will introduce AI-powered protection to filter the content. As per my conversation with Mr Adam, this is a two way feature that will filter content going out and coming in and it will even filter contents from apps!
HMD Barca 3210 & HMD Barca Fusion
I am not complaining here, cause the 3210 is a sleek and sexy feature phone and it now comes in two Club colours, Blau and Grana. Similar to the many hidden easters on the Barbie, the 3210 comes with hidden messages from players,custom wallpapers and the new version of Snake!
The Barca Fusion is a special edition Fusion device that also comes in with Barcelona themed Outfit that would unlock customized themes and ringtones and alarms. The collector’s item will have engraved players signature which glows in dark under UV light.
HMD Amped Buds!
The most refreshing accessory from HMD. New design, new features, truly compatible with the Skyline! A brilliant edition to the sexiest smartphone built, the HMD Skyline. The Amped Buds comes in matching colours, support Qi2 standard for magnetic wireless charging and it is the first in the world to with reverse charging case. The Apple compatible earbuds are truly sleek and offers ANC and ENC and are powered by Qualcomm technology. The 1600 mAh battery gives it 95 hour listening time and has IP54 rating for the buds and IP4 rating for the case. It is powered by Bluetooth 5.4 and has Fast Pair.
HMD 130 and 150 Music
These are the perfect feature phones to enjoy your music on the go. The retro candy bar design, a large speaker and built in FM radio with SD card support and Bluetooth 5.0 last a month on single charge on standby mode. The 130 has dual torch on the top while the 150 comes with a QVGA camera with a torch.
HMD 2660 Flip
The 2660 Flip has a cult of its own. I love its large and well spaced keypad and its dual screen. The reimagined Flip has an edgy style, with a mirror finish glass fascia and brings in Detox mode too.
The above devices are affirmations by HMD to bring a truly Human Mobile Device . The continuation of successful devices with a new twist like the 3210 and 2660 Flip and exploring different pathways with a truly modular device like the Fusion is a smart move.
When it comes to ingenuity, HMD scores big with the most sleekest looking earbuds that are not only Qi2 magnetic compatible, but also the first in the world to also be a power-bank for your phone! And of course, HMD is listening to the feedbacks and we will finally have an EQ app for the buds.
The short opportunity with Mr Adam gives me a better understanding on how HMD wants to differentiate their presence in this saturated market. The Human first approach shows that HMD is determined to lead the path to bring safety first for our loved ones. Are these the only offering from HMD this year? Definitely no! Mr Adam has assured that HMD will be bringing exciting and game changing devices this year and I am looking forward to it.
