The HMD Fusion is available in more markets and HMD has also started the sales for their Smart Outfits! HMD’s representative updated that the Wireless Outfit is currently shelved off and we need to wait till next year to see if it makes its way back. At this point of time, the Smart Outfit consists of Flashy Outfit, Gaming Outfit , both which are already on sale , ,and the Rugged Outfit which will be available next year. But, do take note that the Rugged Outfit also supports wireless charging, so HMD is not removing the wireless experience, but rather, streamlining their portfolio.
HMD Gaming Outfit
I am currently working on HMD Flashy Outfit’s review which should be out in a few days time but I has the opportunity to play with the Gaming Outfit. If you have followed my reviews in the past, I am not a gamer and hence this is a new experience for me , and I hope I manage to deliver the essence of the experience here without butchering it.
At about USD 40, the Gaming Outfit definitely feels well built and sturdy despite its use of plastic material. It does have a rubberized edges where the Fusion sits so it does not damage your device when you slide it in. This is one device where reading the start guide is more or less mandatory to fully understand your way around the controller and I am sure that the expert gamers out there probably could interact with the Fusion device solely through the controller !
The hand grip is textured compared to the rest of the body which is matte. The HMD branding stands out here and the controller comes in a single color variant. I feel that if HMD made the controllers with colored buttons, it will look more appealing to the crowd, but that is just my personal view.
The controller has a USB C port that allows you to charge up the Fusion when you are not gaming. It also as a 3.5mm head-jack for stereo output. The lights indicate when the the Fusion is being charged and when the data communication is established.

As I am not a gamer, I find that its hard to find Android games that support the use of controllers and I can’t find any that allows vibration feedback to the controller.
Games from other platform that can be streamed to the Android device might be able to better utilize the full potential of the Game controller. Having said that, you can easily google for list of Android games that support the use of the controller and enjoy those games differently.
I hope that this brief review did justice to the HMD Gaming Outfit and as I said earlier I am working on the Flashy Outfit review ,which should be out soon.
